Before the Summer Rush Takes Over… Ask Yourself This One Question

The summer holidays are here.

For some, they've been eagerly anticipated.

For others, they arrive with a quiet sense of overwhelm.

The routines disappear overnight. The house suddenly feels louder. The snack cupboard empties at an alarming rate, the laundry seems endless, and the pressure to create magical memories can feel surprisingly heavy.

If that's you, I want you to know something.

You're not the only one.

Sometimes social media can make it look as though everyone else is effortlessly making homemade ice lollies, planning exciting adventures, and soaking up every precious moment.

The reality?

Many parents are simply trying to make it through the day.

And that's okay.

This summer, don't put pressure on yourself to be endlessly patient, constantly calm, or the parent who has everything together.

You don't have to be strong every minute.

You don't have to enjoy every moment.

You don't have to pretend you're not exhausted.

Instead, I'd love to invite you to ask yourself one simple question...

How do I want to feel this summer?

Not what you want to achieve.

Not how many places you want to visit.

Not how many activities you want to tick off.

But how do you want your days to feel?

Maybe your answer is...

Calmer.

More connected.

Playful.

Present.

Free.

Rested.

Whatever your answer is, let that become your guide.

Because creating beautiful memories doesn't have to mean spending lots of money or travelling for hours.

Some of the most meaningful moments happen close to home.

Head to the beach.

Walk through the woods.

Visit a local park.

Build dens.

Collect shells.

Ride bikes.

Dance in the kitchen.

Watch the sunset.

Children rarely remember how much something cost.

They remember how they felt.

And here's something we often forget...

Choose places where you get to enjoy yourself too.

Somewhere you can breathe.

Somewhere that helps your nervous system settle.

Somewhere you can laugh alongside your children instead of simply managing the day.

When everyone starts feeling overwhelmed, pause.

Take one slow, deep breath.

Drop your shoulders.

Feel your feet on the ground or the sand beneath them.

Look up at the sky.

Listen to the waves, the birds or the laughter around you.

You don't have to fix everything.

Sometimes your nervous system just needs a moment to catch up.

And if today feels hard...

Reach out.

Send the voice note.

Call your best friend.

Laugh together.

Cry together.

Scream into the sea if that's what you need.

You are not meant to carry it all on your own.

The village may look different now, but we can still choose to be that support for one another.

Check in on another Parent

Invite someone for a walk.

Share the load.

Because we're not meant to do this alone.

There will be messy days.

There will be magical days.

Most of us will experience both before lunchtime.

Give yourself permission to be human.

To rest when you can.

To play when you can.

To breathe when everything feels too much.

And to remember that your children don't need a perfect summer.

They need you.

Present.

Loved.

And knowing that it's okay to be imperfect.

So here's to sandy feet.

Sticky fingers.

Ice creams.

Late sunsets.

Deep breaths.

Big laughs.

Real moments.

And a summer that feels good—not because everything went to plan, but because you allowed yourself to be fully present in it.

Most of all...

I hope you enjoy your summer too! ☀️

Love Pammy
